Our Space

Our studio is located in Nonantum, a village of Newton, MA. Our sunny space features tall ceilings, large windows and beautiful natural light. The studio walls become gallery walls for studio events such as Open Studios (typically in the Spring and Fall) and member shows. Our diverse community of member artists work in a variety of media, sharing workspace as well as ideas and experiences to create a community of sharing and support for their independent artistic goals. Studio Space (4000 sq.ft.)

●      Large Studio (1900 sq.ft.) large open space that serves as the main studio - sunny, tall ceilings, large windows, beautiful natural light.
●      Middle Room serves as a work area as well as a gathering place for meetings, meals and conversations.
●      Kitchen Area - includes sink, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, dishes, silverware, mugs and glasses.
●      Small Studio (300 square feet)
●      Storage room with shelving for members’s art supplies
●      Large storage units (2) for storing large canvases  
●      Library - there is a large selection of books about art and artists (western and non- western), spirituality, crafts, philosophy, and writing, among other subjects.
●      Restrooms (2) - one that includes a slop sink. 
●      Loading Dock with retractable door

Shared Supplies, Equipment and Materials

Supplies and Equipment

There are tempera paints, inks, pastels, crayons and pencils, charcoal, paper, paint brushes, trays, tables, easels and tape available for general use.  There are tools, clamp lights, space heaters, fans, ladders. It is assumed that Affiliates and non-Affiliates will supply their own materials for ongoing works and projects.


Play Materials

The studio has a wide variety of materials including fabrics, shells, nuts and bolts, buttons, beans, blocks, yarn, feathers, and marbles that you can use to make temporary (play) works.

Use of Hazardous Materials is NOT Permitted in the Studio.

Chemical hazards including most aerosol sprays, spray paints and oil paints and most solvents present a fire and combustion risk as well as a health risk and are not permitted in the studio.  Chemical hazards and toxins that OSHA requires be labelled as a health hazard similarly are not allowed.  This includes oil paints of any type, however water-based oils are allowed.

Please be advised that many products including pastels, acrylics, pigment sticks and even watercolors may contain cadmium or lead or other metals and should be used with care.

As a practical matter it is impossible to ban the use of all allergens, but affiliates are expected to respect the comfort and health concerns of others and refrain from using products in the vicinity of an affiliate if advised by that affiliate of an allergy to or intolerance of a particular product.

Studio Rental

•  Studio rental rates include use of the kitchen, dining area and bathrooms, including slop sink. Art materials are not included. Use of Turtle Studios’ art supplies requires an additional $10 per person.

•  An Affiliate must be available to open and close the studio for all rentals.

•  The rental party must leave the studio in the same condition in which it was found.

•  For regular, ongoing rentals, such as monthly meetings, a reasonable discount may be negotiated per written agreement by arrangement with the Pentagang.

Small Studio

Half Day - $40.00 (Affiliate) $60.00 (Non-Affiliate)

Full Day - $75.00 (Affiliate) $100.00 (Non-Affiliate)

Large Studio*

Half Day - $80.00 (Affiliate) $125.00 (Non-Affiliate)

Full Day - $150.00 (Affiliate) $200.00 (Non-Affiliate)

* The large studio may be rented for exclusive use by arrangement with the Pentagang and written agreement.
